When I was a kid, I wasn’t “good” in art class. Or at least that’s what I thought.
This was due to a couple of factors: 1. I couldn't then and still can't now draw or paint photorealistic pieces. 2. My elementary school teachers didn't nurture all their students to help them find the best in themselves.
My artistic development shouldn’t have stopped there. But it did. And now I’m making up for lost time.
Although many people I’ve encountered don’t like or don’t get abstract art, it’s always been appealing to me. A painting or drawing or photograph doesn’t have to be something. It is what it is. And what it is can be beautiful.
I’ve always found art awards shows to be strange. How can you judge art? How can you say one painting or song or film is better than others? Art is art. All art is beautiful.
So now I make art, and I love it. The little 4th grader somewhere inside me is finally smiling.
