Those who don't agree that this likely was rape may cite the false accuser allegations in a couple of recent public cases. These tiny fraction of all the reported and unreported sexual assault cases do not refute the overwhelming evidence that sexual assaults on campuses continue to happen every day.
Others will remind us that we're all innocent until proven guilty. That is true, but remember just because someone is not charged with a felony doesn't mean that sexual assault didn't happen. Criminal charges could not have been brought for many reasons. Plus the University took action against the players. It would not have done this, especially not against their largest-moneymaker (football), if there wasn't sufficient evidence to do so.
Will the University yield to pressure from donors, alumni, the players and others because of the "importance" of the upcoming football bowl game? And what of the woman, identity withheld for her protection, who experienced this? She joins the millions of other sexually abused women in this country who are refuted, dismissed and ultimately forgotten.
