Whether it’s wanting to break something when angry or withdraw and drink excessive alcohol when sad, there can be temptation to get these feelings out in any way possible. The key is to develop your own “mental health toolbox” filled with things you can do when you’re not feeling well that not only will help you feel better, but are also safe.
Some examples of healthy coping skills include listening to music, going for a walk, reading, meditating, exercising, creating art, journaling, deep breathing, talking with friends or family, watching something funny and many more. And of course there’s also talking to a mental health professional. Contact me for a free consultation and to learn more about processing emotions in a healthy way. Take care and be well. -Rich Lombino, Therapist & Lawyer
