One way is to counter stress and negative thought loops with positive associations and affirmations. Start the day with a positive thought about someone or something you care for deeply. Get yourself in a positive mindset that can build resilience and keep the big picture in perspective. Yes, you have a difficult thing coming up, but there are many valued positive things in your life and things will be ok. Take some time for deep breaths, meditation or positive affirmations to keep your mindset positive.
