Here’s 2 Fun Things You Can Do To Help With Depression

Struggling with depression? Staying indoors most of the time? This can help.

One of the challenging symptoms of depression is isolation. The more you isolate, the more depressed you get. A sometimes endless loop of despair. But there is hope. If you’re able to get outside, it can make a significant difference in your mood.

Here’s two things you can do:
1. Take a walk. Ideally outside if the weather allows it. Walking or hiking in a park can help remove the sometimes challenging stimulation of roads and cars, and connect with nature, which can be soothing. If it’s too cold or raining, head to the mall. I can appreciate that being around many people when you’re feeling down can be difficult, so consider going earlier when the mall opens. Some malls allow walking even before the stores open.
2. Do an activity. One example is going to a museum. Most have times when admission is free. Creating and viewing art uses a different part of the brain than things like paying bills and reading a contract, so it can give you a break and help you recharge. Plus looking at things you find beautiful can lift your spirits.

I realize that these activities can at times take what feels like Herculean effort when you’re depressed. Start with reasonable expectations. So don’t initially say you’re going to go for a walk every day. Just set a goal that you’re going to do it today.

You can view this Facebook Live video to get more of an idea what I mean. Take care.
